Born in Mexico City she is a graduate of Journalism and Communications from the Universidad Iberoamericana. She is executive director and founder of Latinocalifornia and she writes the political column “Enlace” for the newspaper La Opinión in Los Angeles while performing as a host for the radio program “Nuestra Gente” which airs on W Radio 690 AM. She worked for 16 years for La Opinion, where she was a reporter and editor of several sections, including the front page and the weekly “La Opinión Para Ti”, produced by Los Angeles Times and La Opinion.
Maria Luisa was also a news producer and anchor of “Las Americas” for the radio station Voice of Orange County, as well as host of “Contrapunto” for Telemundo.
In Mexico was a reporter for the newspaper La Prensa and managing editor of the “Revista Latinoamericana Visión” and “Revista Económica Interamericana Progreso“.
She has numerous awards, including the Frank del Olmo Award for Journalist of the Year by the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ), the award for best editorial column in New America Media and the award for best educational series for California Teachers Association, and several other top awards by the National Association of Hispanic Publications. Also considered by PR Newswire as one of the 100 most influential Hispanic journalists in the United States.
